The Rock_Paper_Scissors project aims to promote the young generation of the artists from post-Soviet countries (Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia etc.) around the idea of political reflection and art. While the post-Soviet contemporary theater is relatively known to the European public, and groups of political protestors and activists such as Femen have conquered the media sphere, the performance art from these countries remains relatively unknown on the European scene, with the exception of Pussy Riot. However, in post-Soviet countries there is a real breeding ground of committed artists who rely on the medium of the performance to create a protest art, powerful and deliberately provocative. Rock_Paper_ Scissors Paris will exhibit a spectrum of performance artists who question the post-Soviet society, analyzing the national symbols and their use in the mass media. Performance is mobilized as a space of resistance in which the artist engages primarily as a citizen defying censorship, diverting political propaganda. Many feminist inspired performances are in response to the patriarchal and macho image conveyed by this propaganda.
For this Parisian edition Q rators brings together 16 artists : 8 Ukrainians, 7 Russians, 2 Belorussians for a one-week long festival that will be held in 4 venues. All the performances, interventions, installations and debates will be exclusively created for this event.
