avec Dimitris Chimonas + Theodoulos Polyviou

Catherine Baÿ invites Cypriot artists Dimitris Chimonas and Theodoulos Polyviou to attend a two week residency at The Window Laboratoire Paris.

Chimonas & Polyviou have been developing discussions and practically investigating the sculptural qualities of the body and inversely, sculpture as a trigger and accommodating platform for action.
In this two-week residency the artists explore the politics and social structures of spaces in which humans are invited to acknowledge their potential to feel and sense, to be intuitive, to be animals.
By focusing on the architecture and narratives that outline these spaces, the artists developed a sculpture that will be completed with a performance with Alberto Sorbelli on the opening night.

Performance: 31st March at 7pm
Exhibition duration: 31st of March – 10th of April

Dimitris Chimonas is a theatre maker, director and performer from Cyprus. His work evolves in the intersection of performance and theatre, exploring spectacle and context. The theatre plays he directed were presented from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival to theatres in the UK, Cyprus and New York. He has presented works at the Point Centre for Contemporary Art (Nicosia, CY 2014), at the Benaki Museum commissioned by NEON + Marina Abramovic Institute (Athens, GR 2016), the Open House International Festival (Limassol, CY 2016) and the BJCEM 18th Mediterranea Young Artists Biennale (Tirana, AL 2017). Theodoulos Polyviou comes from a Fine Art background. In 2014, he graduated from Royal College of Art with a masters in Visual Communication. His work is of sculptural nature, in which elements of the physical and the digital are intersecting, bringing new technologies that deal with virtuality in harmony with the traditional. His practice explores the metaphorical, physical and political gendered space throwing into crisis the mutual, simultaneous and
interconnected production of place and self. Theodoulos has exhibited in London, Greece, Cyprus, Denmark and Albania, representing Cyprus at the Young Artist Biennale. He is the co-founder and co-director of project space, korai, in Nicosia, Cyprus.
